Summary
Concerns over the impacts of climate change on food security in the Sahel are linked to the association between persistent drought and episodes of acute food insecurity in the 1970s and 1980s. This report presents a method to assess climate impacts on livelihoods and food security using household data from the 2005 Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis (CFSVA) of Mali and complementary data from the 2007 CFSVA and the 2010 FEWS NET livelihood profile analysis. The analysis indicates that food insecurity in Mali is sensitive to changes in climate and rainfall, and that sensitivities are differentiated by climatology and livelihood profiles.
