This report provides an overview of WFP's progress in scaling up its Anticipatory Action (AA) operations, from covering 4.1 million people in 36 countries in 2023 to over 6.2 million people in 44 countries in 2024. In 2024, the world faced some of the most extreme environmental conditions on record, triggering severe droughts, catastrophic floods, and intensified cyclones, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. To mitigate these impacts, WFP’s global Anticipatory Action portfolio accounted for USD 100 million, including USD 72.6 million of prearranged financing for anticipatory action activations. The increased portfolio was possible thanks to support from donor partners such as Austria, Australia, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Germany, Google.org, Korea, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, the World Bank, the Adaptation Fund and the Green Climate Fund. This support has been crucial in empowering communities to prepare for and mitigate the impact of extreme weather events on their lives, livelihoods and food security. In 2024 alone, 1.3 million people received anticipatory transfers, and over 8.6 people received early warning information during 16 activations in 13 different countries.
