Summary
WFP conducted a protection and accountability to affected people analysis in June 2023. Years of conflict and displacement have exacerbated existing protection challenges and limited access of the population to protection services. Protection risks in the Far North are diverse due to the complex, multiple and mixed situations of displacements, caused by armed conflict, intercommunal violence and natural disaster. In 2022, the main protection risks reported were related to theft and destruction of property, kidnapping and killings. Men and boys were the victims of over 78 per cent of these incidents. The analysis revealed 11 protection risks related to: a) safety and dignity and avoiding causing harm; b) access to assistance; c) accountability; d) participation and empowerment.
