Summary
School meal programmes have expanded to reach almost 80 million more children in the last four years. This represents a remarkable increase of around 20 percent, with 466 million children globally now receiving school meals. As part of the evolving multilateral architecture, the School Meals Coalition has galvanized support for school meals as a powerful policy lever and has stimulated global action, reflected in the unprecedented expansion of school meal programmes. Research confirms that aggregated benefits across multiple sectors make school meals an exceptionally cost-effective investment in national development. WFP’s role has evolved and continues to adapt to a new development model lead by countries and communities through the multilateral global movement on school meals.
