Summary
WFP in Eswatini is shifting from direct food assistance to technical support and institutional strengthening to help the Government achieve food and nutrition security and meet SDG commitments. The Transitional Interim Country Strategic Plan, informed by lessons learned and consultations, focuses on improving nutrition for vulnerable groups affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS, including orphans, PMTCT clients, and people living with HIV/TB. Reflecting limited funding and persistent malnutrition, the T‑ICSP prioritizes two outcomes: improved nutritional status for targeted groups by 2022 and a stronger national social protection system capable of supporting food‑insecure populations year‑round. WFP will transition programmes to national ownership while enhancing technical assistance, coordination, monitoring, and oversight. The plan builds on a 2015 review and WFP’s strengths in nutrition, HIV programming, safety nets, school feeding, and supply chain, and prepares for the next Country Strategic Plan starting in July 2019. Government remains the primary partner, with development support expected mainly through technical assistance.
