Résumé
Jordan has achieved strong economic, social and human development gains over the past decade, while also showing exceptional solidarity by hosting 1.3 million Syrians fleeing conflict. However, the protracted refugee crisis has placed heavy strain on national systems, threatening development progress and increasing poverty among vulnerable Jordanian communities. At the same time, many refugees remain highly vulnerable, with over 70 percent of Syrian households in host communities food insecure or at risk. The 2018 transitional Interim Country Strategic Plan aligns with the Jordan Response Plan, related UN frameworks, and WFP’s Vision 2020, positioning WFP as a key partner supporting both the Government of Jordan and affected populations. The plan focuses on three strategic outcomes: ensuring year‑round access to safe and nutritious food for Syrian refugees and those stranded at the Berm; enabling vulnerable Jordanians, including schoolchildren, to meet basic food and nutrition needs; and helping vulnerable women and men in refugee and host communities strengthen skills, capacities and livelihood opportunities. During this transition period, WFP will also coordinate a national Zero Hunger Strategic Review to assess progress toward SDG 2. Findings from this review, along with partner consultations, will guide the development of Jordan’s full Country Strategic Plan, expected for Executive Board approval in November 2018 and to begin in 2019.
