Resúmen
Food insecurity remains widespread in Sierra Leone, driven by economic instability, environmental degradation, extreme weather events and structural barriers that limit access to safe, nutritious food. Despite strong agricultural potential, chronic challenges require integrated, transformative approaches that strengthen food systems, boost community resilience and ensure children receive adequate nutrition. Building on progress from the 2020–2025 country strategic plan and aligned with the Government’s Feed Salone Strategy, WFP’s 2026–2030 plan will prioritize vulnerable populations by reinforcing the home‑grown school feeding programme, supporting smallholder farmers and expanding access to diverse, nutritious diets. A food systems approach will guide efforts across the value chain, with special focus on empowering rural women and creating livelihood opportunities for youth. The strategy, aligned with national and UN frameworks, centres on three outcomes: 1) improving crisis‑affected populations’ ability to meet food and nutrition needs; 2) ensuring children and vulnerable groups have year‑round access to safe, locally produced, nutrient‑dense food; and 3) strengthening resilient livelihoods through improved natural resource management, skills, and access to finance and markets. Cross‑cutting priorities include nutrition, protection, accountability and environmental sustainability, with a strong emphasis on human rights, “do no harm” principles and addressing the needs of marginalized and vulnerable groups.
