FEDERATION OF MALAYA

Former federation of 9 Malay States, set up 1946 as Union of Malaya, re-organized and and estab. 1948 as Federation of Malaya. It achieved independence with membership in the Commonwealth in 1957 and became part of Federation of Malaysia , Sept. 16 1963
